Christian Debt
Elimination
“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to
the lender.”
Proverbs 22:7
Does this mean we should never borrow? No. But it does warn
us to never take on a loan or use our credit cards without
carefully examining our ability to repay. A loan we can handle
is enabling, a loan we can’t handle is enslaving. You must
realize that until you have repaid the loan, you are the
servant to the individual or institution that made it. No one
wants to find themselves in the position where their debts are
piling up. But if that is the case, there are Christian
debt elimination counselors available.
In Luke 12:42: “And the Lord said, ‘Who then is that
faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over
his household, to give them their portion of meat in due
season?’”
We must be good stewards of what the Lord has blessed us
with and spend wisely. Sometimes we find ourselves in debt for
perfectly legitimate reasons. There could be an illness,
rendering you unable to work. In these precarious times, we are
seeing more and more people being laid off or hours cut
substantially. There are regular monthly payments that are due
and not enough to pay them. Sometimes credit cards are used to
pay bills and the debt begins to build. It can become
overwhelming and a Christian debt elimination service
may be needed.
Do Some Research
Talk to a family member, friend or relative. Ask if they
have ever used a Christian debt elimination counselor
or service. You can do an online search and find that there are
several companies all wanting your business. You do not want to
become deeper in debt, so shop around. Word of mouth and
personal testimonies are always the best references.
